Originally named Florida Technological University, this school was established in 1963. The institutions first President, Dr. Charles Millican, selected the school colors of black and gold and named the Pegasus as the school emblem. Five years later, in 1968, the first classes were held for an enrollment of just under two thousand and the first graduation was held for about 400 of those students in 1970. Then in 1978, after Dr. Trevor Coeburn became the new president, the name was officially changed to the University of Central Florida. The school now has the reputation of offering the best undergraduate education in the state of Florida.
