In 1885, one of Arizona's primary goals was to discover, educate, inspire and serve. Plans for their very first university materialized. The doors opened in 1891 to welcome 32 students. Four years later, congratulations were then offered at the university’s inaugural graduation, Class of 1895.
Today, as a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the school is ranked among the top 20 institutions of research in America and has almost 37,000 students. For nearly a century, the school mascot has been a wildcat, currently represented by a costumed twosome, known as Wilbur & Wilma Wildcat. The official colors that represent the university are cardinal red and navy blue.
