Falling on hard economic times after the Civil War, the Seminary closed its doors. Perseverance paid off and the school was re-opened in 1880. Renamed the University of Denver, under Chancellor David Hastings Moore, the University saw its first graduate in 1884. Building began on the present day location in 1890. Known as the Denver Pioneers, the school gallantly exhibits the brilliant colors of crimson and gold.
